BPV – Bob’s personal views on current issue in the media!

The new West Yorkshire Police forensic technology suite was recently opened by Sir Alec Jeffrey, has been named after him for his pioneering breakthrough in the development of DNA fingerprinting. This changed the way we police and prosecute offenders. It is a great development, as will be the forensic technology suite, which has opened at Keighley, again a great investment.
With the new state of the art MIT suites, the major investigation teams now have the ability to have ‘real time’ filming straight from the scene to the briefing room. The suites are at the cutting edge of preventing and detecting crime.
It has been suggested that even the senior investigating officer, the person in charge, wouldn’t need to go to the scene as they would be able to see everything on screen. Armchair detectives or TV detectives? Hopefully this will not happen and the person in charge will always attend scenes and allow their emotions and senses  to understand and feel what had taken place ,’real time’ first-hand, there is no substitute. Whilst film is extremely helpful it can also make it difficult to understand the whole essence of a scene. Basics need to be remembered as technology moves forwards.
Great investments? Most certainly but lurking still in the undergrowth are the police commissioner a.k.a white elephants. They have their pensions secured, wouldn’t they have more support as volunteers which the Country keeps crying out for, instead of  being highly paid(with additional expenses of course). Or are they, as people suggest PC’s – Political Commissioners ?
Whilst the above development is excellent, even more so in a time of recession, are we forgetting one thing. That our greatest investment is in ‘PEOPLE’?
So now we have state of the heart infrastructure and cutting edge technology, can we please make PEOPLE now a priority, so they do not feel deflated, devalued and disillusioned.
We should never forget that on a daily basis that ‘PEOPLE’ are at the fore in the life threatening arena for the good of us all. Our support and respect for them is essential. As an retired Senior Investigating Officer with numerous accolades for the investigation of serious crime I worry that  without the right people doing the job we will all suffer in the future.

In The Media!

The media get a lot of stick but we all still love to buy our newspapers and magazines don’t we?

We have so much to thank the journalists, newspaper editors and presenters for on our latest book signing tour and we have nothing but praise for their professionalism, enthusiam and energy for our venture from Crime Fighters to Crime Writers!

In each town we were grateful to get the most fantastic coverage that before the event we could only have dreamt of. Leeds -  The Yorkshire Post, Bradford – The Telegraph and Argus, Halifax - The Courier, Huddersfield - The Huddersfield Examiner, Isle of Wight – County Press as well as a double page feature in Best Magazine 1st May and a feature in Writers News 12th June.

We were also lucky enough to be invited onto Isle of  Wight Radio with Heather McCallum and BBC Radio Leeds and you can listen in again by going to our publishers website and scrolling down on this page

We were filmed by Calendar TV at two book signing events and in their new ‘Interview Room at ITV Studio’s in Leeds’! This has yet to be aired as it is to be part of a film piece but I will update you all as and when we know.

Here we are being interviewed  on Radio and TV!

In my experience to enable a book signing to be successful, and one on this scale which starts some 300 miles away from home and where we were going to travel some 1000 miles to different towns each day, there needs to be plenty of preparation. So with the help and support of our fantastic publishers, Caffeine Nights Publishing, I got to speaking with the media early on. I believe that it is just as essential for us, as authors to have a good relationship with the media as it is with the book seller and the reader.

This I’m happy to say is some results from that communication.

On our tour we also ran not only this blog but a competition where people buying our books were asked if they would like to put their name in a ‘Policeman’s Hat,’ which we took with us, to give them a chance to be character-named in a Dylan novel. We made three ‘dips’ in the hat and the lucky people have just been named as you can see from an earlier entry on our blog. All this added to the sense of the occasion and the media support from this is yet to come!

In 2009 we did a similar tour and from this our Youtube video of us on the sofa on Calendar TV has had some 1,604 hits todate.

Thank you to everyone who is very kindly leaving comments on this site and also on the review sites such as Amazon and Goodreads.

It is always good to hear from you via e mail from our website, Facebook & Twitter.

Bye for now!
